چکیده

9 May 2006 The imaging of brain tumors has significantly improved with the use of advanced magnetic resonance (MR) techniques, such as spectroscopy, perfusion, and functional imaging. Conventional MR imaging (MRI) provides mainly anatomic or structural information about the brain. Unlike conventional imaging, advanced MR techniques also provide physiological information concerning metabolism and hemodynamics. These techniques not only aid in the imaging diagnosis of brain tumors, they may also play a role in clinical management of patients with brain tumors. A concise compendium of the physiology, techniques, and clinical applications of MR perfusion imaging, spectroscopy, functional MR imaging (fMRI), and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in the setting of neuro-oncology is reviewed in this article.

The role of relative cerebral blood volume obtained from Perfusion Weighted Imaging-MRI in glioma tumor grading before surgery

Introduction: Glioma is the most common type of brain malignancy among adults. Treatment for this type of tumor involves surgery, radiotherapy, and in higher grades, including chemotherapy. The precise grading of the tumor is critical for treatment planning and prognosis determining. Considering the possibility of problems such as errors in tissue sampling during surgery, as we...

Emerging Techniques in Brain Tumor Imaging: What Radiologists Need to Know

Among the currently available brain tumor imaging, advanced MR imaging techniques, such as diffusion-weighted MR imaging and perfusion MR imaging, have been used for solving diagnostic challenges associated with conventional imaging and for monitoring the brain tumor treatment response. Further development of advanced MR imaging techniques and postprocessing methods may contribute to predicting...

Multimodality Brain Tumor Imaging: MR Imaging, PET, and PET/MR Imaging.

Standard MR imaging and CT are routinely used for anatomic diagnosis in brain tumors. Pretherapy planning and posttreatment response assessments rely heavily on gadolinium-enhanced MR imaging. Advanced MR imaging techniques and PET imaging offer physiologic, metabolic, or functional information about tumor biology that goes beyond the diagnostic yield of standard anatomic imaging. With the adve...

Advanced magnetic resonance imaging techniques in brain tumours surgical planning

Morphological assessment using Computed Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is still the workhorse of tumor detection and diagnosis. In particular, MRI provides detailed information about cerebral tumor anatomy, cellular metabolism and hemodynamic features, making it a fundamental tool for a correct diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of the disease. Various new functional imagi...

Comparison of state-of-the-art atlas-based bone segmentation approaches from brain MR images for MR-only radiation planning and PET/MR attenuation correction

Introduction: Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging has emerged as a valuable tool in radiation treatment (RT) planning as well as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging owing to its superior soft-tissue contrast. Due to the fact that there is no direct transformation from voxel intensity in MR images into electron density, itchr('39')s crucial to generate a pseudo-CT (Computed Tomography) image ...
